Vintage Thingies Thursday: Vintage Thoughts

Welcome to Vintage Thingies Thursday hosted by Coloradolady. Stop by Coloradolady's blog today for more great vintage thingies.
I got these one day from a friend and thought you younger folk would have fun with these---you see I am VINTAGE---and this is just the way it was when I was growing up.

The more I see the changes in our world with everything related to God and christian values being eliminated and said to be hate crime, living a decent, moral life and our rights gradually being taken away from us ---the more I realize those really were The Good Ole Days.
You may find some of these interesting, so here we go:

As infants & children and even adults, we rode in cars with no seat belts (maybe not even a seat), no booster seats, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

We drank water from a garden hose or from a dipper( for well water ), and not from a bottle.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon.

We drank Kool-Aid made with real sugar, and we were not over weight---because we were always outside playing.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms (or Blogs).

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them and enjoyed playing together and often making up our games.

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house, giving no thought to a kidnapping or drive by shooting then---it was safe.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all and we did not need to be entertained all day---we made our own entertainment---we had some imagination and creativity about us and more importantly we survived !!!

So I hope you enjoyed a look at days past ---I look back and I really am glad I grew up that way---much better than this generation has it. I will try to come up with some other things we did at a later date---you know it takes a while to think and remember these things---especially when you are Vintage. Ha!

MONDAY"S MEDICINE

Since this is MOTHER"S DAY month I will post the second
edition of -answers given by 2nd grade school children to
the following questions:

WHAT DID MOM NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DAD BEFORE SHE MARRIED HIM?

1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background,
like is he a crook? Does he get
drunk on beer?
3. Does he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

WHAT DOES YOUR MOM DO IN HER SPARE TIME?

1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all
day long.

Kids are very observant and have big ears as we can see from
these, so be careful what you say and do in front of them.

Hope these will give you a little lift as you start a new week.

REMEMBER--laughter does good like a medicine--laugh often/stay well.

I got a welcomed surprise today from Charlotte of At Home In Scottsdale. She honored me with a Golden Heart Award.

Thank you so much Charlotte for this award---SHOCK---I never expected this---since I have been doing this for only a week.

Since I am new to the blogging community, I do not know enough blogs to pass this award on to, so this time, I am going to do this a little differently. So for all of you who make a comment on this post, please accept this award from me.

---Thank you again, Charlotte.

Vintage Thingie Thursday: Vintage Poem

This is my first Vintage Thingie Thursday post, hosted by Coloradolady. Click HERE to see all the great vintage goodies today.

This is really not a vintage piece I don't guess but it was written in 1979 by someone very dear to me and it is about Mother---I do not have any way of making a copy of the original print but it was a poem to me about mother and I treasure it and it still hangs on the wall right by my computer. The following was written by daughter--Coloradolady in 1979---enjoy---since Mother's Day is coming up.

A MOTHER

A mother is someone who loves us,
No matter what we say or do.

It does not matter how old we are,
Her love is always true.

She's someone we admire greatly.
She's someone we turn to confide in,

A mother is often our very best friend.
Her patience and courage, her dear smiling face,

Her warmth has made our home a much
happier place.

A mother always offers her smile.
She makes every childs life worth while.

A mother has a special place in everyones heart,
and that something special could never be torn apart.

A mother is someone to share all our dreams,
No matter how large or small they may seem.

She keeps our secrets beyond compare,
It seems , with her everything we share.

A mother lends her shouder to cry on
When our spirits are low, and we find

Ourselves turning to her day-by-day
For the comfort she provides in her old trusting way.

So thank you Lord, for giving me no other,
But the lady you gave me, my dear mother.

Thanks, Suzanne--I treasure this and after 30 years I hope
you still feel the same way. I love you dearly and without you
I would not be a mother. You are a great mother too.

Blue Monday: Monday's Medicine

This is my first Blue Monday post, and I am excited to participate. Smiling Sally host Blue Monday on her blog, be sure to visit all the Blue Monday participants today and see all the blue on display.

There is a saying on the negative side about BLUE MONDAY but I think we can look at it on a POSITIVE side and say YES we have another chance this week to do better than last week---last week is never to return so forget it.

There is another saying "A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing." Prov.17:22 (amp.)

So this Monday I want to put a smile on your face to start the week with a laugh--it will be good medicine. Since May is the month for Mother's Day I want to give you a sample of what some 2nd grade children had to say about mothers.

WHY DID GOD MAKE MOTHERS?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO MAKE YOUR MOM PERFECT ?
1.On the inside she's already perfect. Outside
I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair---I'd diet, maybe BLUE.

Kids really have great imaginations and just tell it the way they see it.

So have a HAPPY week, put some laughter in and wash away your blue feelings. I hope you enjoyed my Blue Monday post...Have a great week!

Count Your Blessings

Well, I thought I would try to do a FRIDAY'S FOOD FOR THOUGHT to help you over the weekend. So this is my first one. I found this and it really speaks about my life and where I am and how I see things----I have had a lot of ups and downs in my life, and I have learned through the years, even if we are alone in the natural sense we are never alone, and I have the best friend anyone could have and that is Jesus and I give Him all the honor because without Him I could not have made it,because most of my life I was a single mom,(still am), and things got rough at times but I am still going strong at 71---made lots of mistakes as we all do esp. when under stress, but you can't let past mistakes and failures keep you down--you just repent, ask for forgiveness and go on and do what is best. So I hope this poem will give you some FOOD FOR THOUGHT---have a great weekend !

I've never made a fortune,
and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much,
I'm happy anyhow.

And as I go along life's way,
I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

Haven't got a lot of riches,
and sometimes the going is tough.
But I've got loving ones all around me,
and that makes me rich enough.

I thank God for His blessings,
and the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I remember times when things went wrong,
My faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke,
and the sun peeped through again.

So Lord, help me not to gripe,
about the tough rows I have hoed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

If God gives me strenth and courage,
When the way grows steep and rough.
I'll not ask for other blessings,
I'm already blessed enough.

And may I never be too busy,
to help others bear their loads.
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

When I think of how many people
in this world have it worse than I do.
I realize just how blessed most of us really are.

I hope you have enjoyed your Food today.
and counted your blessings so
you can drink from your saucer
"Cause your cup overflowed.

Have a blessed, fun-filled weekend !!!

Encouraging Myself

POTENTIAL

You and your talents
Are not an accident.
You are special in God's eyes.
You have distinct gifts
And talents.
You have shoes to fill that
No one else can wear.
Inside you is enormous
Potential just waiting to be
Developed and put to use.
by-John Maxwell

Hope this will encourage someone today that may be down and feel discouraged,as we all do at times. Never Give Up !!!!!!

Never Too OLD To Learn

How many times have I heard and said that statement??MANY !!!Well, when it comes right down to yourself that is a different story. I barely know how to send and read my e-mails-- now my daughter is really wanting me to stretch my brain---but they say keeping your brain busy is helpful with preventing Alzheimers---so maybe she is trying to help me--ha!! So I guess I will learn how to do this --just do not know what to write--I have a very simple, plain, boring life.
One thing I do on a regular basis is spend, usually every Sat.(or as many as I can, depending on my work schedule) with my oldest sister(LaVoice). We have been doing this since her husband died a few years ago. Since she does not work, I have put her in the position of our Social Director---it is her job to find entertainment or places to go, and things for us to do. I think we have eaten in every restaurant and tea room in the Ft.Worth/Arlington area and most we will not be going back to --we have our favorites now--we had trouble finding ones we liked and I got worried for a while because I thought we might have to stay home and start cooking and that would be scary---I guess we can still boil water.(?) We do not do anything that is earth shaking but we enjoy being together and that is all that matters. Growing up I did not spend that much time with her since I was the baby and a "pest" --I guess--But now we are enjoying our time together--now she realizes how precious I am. HA!
Life is short and ours is getting shorter, so I treasure our times together. Our other sister, Joyce lives in Mississippi --- we have always been close and loved each other and been there for each other and we always will be---I love them dearly. What would we do without family?
Well, until the next brain storm--have a good day and enjoy life, it does not last long.
